Indescribably delicious local strawberries!
This morning as my husband and I drove by Wood's Market Garden in Brandon, we saw a big sign proclaiming "STRAWBERRIES". We decided they had to be importing them from somewhere but we stopped anyway. Turns out they've had fresh strawberries from their own vines since late last week.
We sniffed the strawberries and almost fell over in ecstasy. We bought two quarts. I just ate two strawberries and they are so sweet and tender that I am salivating just thinking about them.
What's ripe in your part of Vermont? What delicious harvest treasures are you enjoying?

First tomato of the summer-I expect it to be eaten by a chipmunk or destroyed by frost at any moment.

And we're growing red lettuce and arugala(sp?) for the first time. Some of it looks ready to eat, but we have no idea how to pick it. Do you just rip one leaf at a time?

Gorgeous photos, Quickdraw! My favorite -- an edible landscape.
Some picking advice I Googled:
To harvest Arugula, pick off the outside leaves at the base of the plant. Leave the center growing point intact for future harvesting.

We have a berry farm just up the road from our house but I don't think the strawberries are ready yet. She usually puts out a "ready to pick" sign and I have not seen it yet.

Hm. My tomatoes are just little flowers still, and I'm in NY!!! How did that happen??!?!
We got strawberries from our CSA for the last two weeks and they were yummy...but my strawberries at home aren't ripe yet - too much rain, not enough sun!
