Think Of Moving from South Carolina
My family and I are thinking about moving to Vermont. Somewhere in the vicinity of central to southern Vermont. Where would be a good area to raise a family and have a "country" feel. A town where a Walmart, shopping stores,etc...are nearby. Don't won't a crowed city, but don't in the "woods" either. Hope you kinda get the idea of a town we are looking for. All info and help will be greatly appreciated.

I am afraid I have never been to Vermont, but my family and I just moved from the SC upstate to San Antonio. I am sure Vermont is beautiful, but get your snow shovel ready! Have a great move.

Im very familier with SC. My parents are real Charlestionian and we recently looked at property in Greenville and Summerville for our upcoming move down south. This place is sooooo diametrically opposed to SC I would suggest you come here first and look. If you are looking for the evil plague of WAL*MARTization(which goes beyond actual WAL*MARTs), we fortunately or unfortunately have only been scarred by it a few times here. I would suggest you come here and look at Burlington or Bennington. They are the only places that even would have 5% of what you are looking for relative what you are used to in SC.

"My family and I are thinking about moving to Vermont. "
The big question is "WHY?" Seriously, what is it exactly that you expect to find? "A place to raise a family" can mean a lot of different things. You won't find Walmarts "nearby" any of the smaller towns. Even in the cities, "nearby" takes on a whole different meaning at 10 degrees with the wind blowing and the locks on the car frozen. How do you plan on supporting that family? Few people = few businesses = few jobs.

Vermont is a wonderful place for a vacation. Living here is an entirely different story.

There are definitely a few factors we would need to know before helping you out further. One being your job situation. Jobs that sustain a family are fairly hard to come by here, although not impossible. It all depends on how you budget your money and what kind of lifestyle you plan on leading up here. If you can let us know what kind of price range, and or other features you're looking for in Vermont, we might be able to steer you in a more specific direction.

Regarding locations of Walmarts I understand there is one in Hinsdale, NH just across the river from Brattleboro. I have a heard a few stories that the revenue hounds from Montpelier keep tabs on across the river purchases trying nail the Vters not paying the sales tax and that many folks now purchase and load up a gift card and then use it to make their tax free purchases. I guess that makes sense since you don't pay tax on a gift card, only merchandise, so you could buy the card in Vt and then use it at any Walmart. Have not stopped there (Hinsdale) but figure the bulk of its business comes from Vt. One thing I have have noticed concerning Walmarts up here that I have been to is that they are typically smaller and less well stocked than other ones I have been to in my travels in other rural areas of the US.

There is a WAL*MART in Rutland where a lot of the criminal
activity takes place in the shared parking lot with AMTRAK
(yes, really) and one in Bennington that was or might be now
trying to 'Super Size' but fighting the town because the town
wants a different look to it rather than the generic declasse,
trashy look that WAL*MART prefers, showing what an evil entity
they really are. Having actively fought the stuff they did in PA,
people just arent aware of the residual issues and negativities
that follow a WAL*MART into an area.

I don't shop at wal ( evil ) mart.
I look for " Made in the USA " goods on line and In Indepentant shops.
They are not easy to find but they are out there.
I would rather pay More and have something good while I support my Neighbors...then send my money to china vie walmart.
