I've always chuckled about the mowing issue here in Northern Minnesota too. It looks nice in most cases and so I have absolutely no problem with it. However, I'm always trying to figure out what drives people to mow three acres of grass around their house. I've seen them mow under the powerline for a half mile off the road, or mow the entire ditch for a quarter mile down from their home on each side.

Hey...it looks nice I'll have to admit, but you just wonder as someone else said earlier how good things are at home if they want to spend so much time on the rider....lol.

I cut two acres around my house. It looks nice and keeps animals away from my house and cuts down on bugs. It takes me about two hours a week. No big deal. I guess it's different strokes for different folks. I live on a street with about eight homes that have ten acres. Six of us cut around the house. IMO, the uncut yards look like crap.

Hmmmm....I wonder if Quickdraw and Artichomesteader live on the same street???? My self I'd prefer to live beside the Runamokers who are proud of their property and spend the time to keep it up instead of across the road from the guy with two rusty Darts covered in weeds.

There are fire concerns as well. If the grass is allowed to grow high right next to the road a car pulling off with a hot catalytic converter can easily start a fire which can spread to a field, woods, or worse very quickly.

By contrast you never see anyone snowblowing the three acres surrounding their house.
