Default Lawn mowing running amok

WTH is up with all the rural Vermonters mowing the SIDE OF THE ROAD with their lawn mowers? I mean it seems foolish enough that with every mowing some people make their lawn bigger and bigger and bigger.

I pass one place where the guy is mowing a couple hundred yards from his house down the side of the road [that the town would mow anyway] but now he mowed around an entire 8 acre field they cut for hay. Really, he now has a couple mower widths around a hay field.

Funny how VTers are making VT look like a miniature golf course.........

I have a theory: The bigger the self mowed lawn the less "adult" activity is taking place in that home.

I doubt this applies to public land but in Vermont if you cut grass for something like seven years, that land is yours. Don't let your neighbor cut your grass.

We cut the our part of the lawn/field that is in town right of way...the town only does it a couple times during the summer...if we don't do it it looks like heck and we can't see pulling out of our driveway. Aside from that we don't mow anything that is not ours.

I would prefer people keep things neat, rather than just let them go. If someone wants to mow a little extra, I say go for it. I have had neighbors that don't do a darn thing as far as landscaping and such, and that is far worse than someone who does too much.

Not in Vermont anymore, but in a rural setting. One of our neighbors is an elderly lady that walks for exercise. She needs safety on the side of the road. Besides, if the area isn't cut, then the road crew has to come through and spray roundup to maintain the right-of-way.

There is the safety issue as well, not only of sightlines, but of letting people know there is a steep drop-off. Cleaning up the blood and wrecked cars can ruin a day.

Sorry this is nonsensical expansion of their lawns.

I think they want that Greenwich look. VT will look soooooo much better when it looks like a miniature gold course.

As opposed to the Vermont look- a couple of rusted out 1975 Dodge Darts on cement blocks with chickens on them , surrounded by high weeds and rusty bedsprings.

But beside the rusty cars there will be three shiny, new snowmobiles and a couple four wheelers.
