Default St. Johnsbury fire

Well we had a busy night last night. Mom woke me up around 11pm and told me that there was a fire down the street. We went out side to see and saw it was three buildings down from our apartment. As we watched the firefighters go for hours trying to save if not the one that was on fire, at least the ones next to it. All I could think about was the families that live in those apartmens. What will happen to them, are they all safe, how do you deal with watching everything you have, aside from your family, just disappear in front of your eyes. The firefighters from 19 firehouses came to do what they could. It made me proud to have decided to move here. To see strangers trying to save what they could, to see neighbors just being there for their friends. This is what I moved here for. A community that comes together and supports each other. As I sit here typing this some of those firefighters are still out there doing what they are trained to do because they care so much. They are still wetting down the building so the fire does not spark back up. The police and emergency staff are talking with the townspeople because they are part of the community too. They understand that the people who are still out there watching them do their job are behind them til the end. This is what a community is at its best. I am so proud and honored to be a part of this community. Just putting this out there. Be safe and where ever you are tonight say a prayer for the families, the business owners, the police and the firefighters who are out there every day doing what they do for the love of their family, friends, community and themselves.

Hmmm - Deja vu. I seem to remember a fire in St J. a few years back that was very similar. Anyone else remember it?

Stj seems to be a magnet for big devestating fires. In the late 90s a block burned on Main Street a few buildings down from Thursday nite's fire. A big block burned on Railroad Street in 2000 where 3 people were killed. And now this. This is my hometown and it's so devestating. I know the business owners who lost their businesses. I know the firefighters. I don't know any of the families displaced but this community will rally together and everyone will get through this. Go StJ!

Yup, wasn't that one in the winter? I remember lots of icicles after it was put out. I'm sure they will rebuild again.
