There's an article in the Free Press about a farm in Hinesburg losing its entire tomato crop to blight.
My wife's boss in the White River Junction area lost all of his tomatoes as well. Today's weather is perfect for blight I'm afraid. The article suggests using fungicide if your crop hasn't been affected yet.
I'm not going to do that.

I finally picked my first tomato the other night down here in NYC....the weather here has been just as bad, the amount of rain followed by hot humid gross weather is insane. There has not been a real summer this year in most of the northeast, from my understanding.
My cucumber plants are about 6" long.

I'm looking outside at the rain right now. It's overcast and slightly cool and I'm wondering if this is going to be the storm to finish me off. Tomatoes are so close, we have a lot of them starting to turn red. We've had about 5 or 6 so far. When it stops raining, make that if it starts raining, I'm going to look for the half dollar size greasy black spots on the leaves as well as white spots on the bottom of the leaves. I've got a bad feeling, I live only a few miles from the farm that has been wiped out.

My daughter lives on 116 just a few miles from Hinesburg. I sent her your post concerning the tomato blight. This is her first garden and I'd hate for her to lose it all the first time....Thanks for posting that info!

I lost a few white pine trees due to root rot. The soils have gotten so damp and swampy in the lower lying area that most of the needles turned from yellow to brown.

Well it's official...late blight has hit some of my tomatoes. Not the ones on my back porch where they've been protected from the rain and nothing else is around, but the ones at my actual garden, unprotected, are coming down with it...sucks, they're just growing tomatoes now some of them are already rotten...oh well, at least my beans are almost ready to pick and it looks like I have a big bean crop this year...
I think if anyone has healthy plants and wants a tomato crop they'll be forced to resort to fungicides of some sort this year. Such a pity, I hate chemicals.

Oh bummer...that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that.
I've been lucky down here in NY so far...but still have only picked one tomato. There are some ripening on the vine though.
