So....Joninil, did your questions get answered somewhere?? I can't believe how touchy certain topics get to be. This ended up being nearly a political debate. People are so defensive! Can't we all just get along?

I'm moving to VT soon and will be living alone, though there will be someone else in the building. I've considered getting a handgun, though I doubt I'd need it in the rural area I'll be in, still...it might ease my mind a bit if I hear a noise at 3 a.m. Anyway, my NH friends said, forget it, VT won't either let you have a gun or you'll have to shell out for a permit (so to speak). After reading these posts, I realize, that we are misinformed, again, when it comes to VT. Looks like I won't even need to get a permit, which is fine with me!

The way I see it, I'm not a gun lover, but they are here to stay it seems, and have been part of our independent, resourceful American way of life for a long time. I can't object to them, because I wouldn't want to not have one, when the person threatening me DOES (lol).

I don't see myself as either a liberal or conservative, I HATE those labels. I also hate the two party system, which I think divides us, but that's another rant I'm an independent. I vote for whoever is the best candidate. Some of my views are conservative, others not so much. My opinions are usually based on what I see and learn.

I'm not a lover of hunting, but I grew up around people who hunted and fished along with a lot of other outdoor activities. I lived in AK for a short while, and most people there love to hunt and fish. I do love animals, and feel sad when I see someone's deer they caught. I also feel sad when I go to the zoo, those caged wild animals belong in the wild. BUT, I don't object to hunting. As long as people are safe...then, whatever, let them do their thing. After all, this was a way of life in our collective NE past. If we didn't hunt, we would've had to rely on the crops we could grow in the rocky NE soil to last us through the winter.

So I'll climb off of my own soapbox now and let someone else climb on up...

By the way, Joninil, if you haven't already you might consider moving to AK. I was in the south central region near Anchorage, just beautiful, plenty of hunting to your heart's content, and a climate much like in NH, but with more snow. The farther north and inland you go, the winters become darker and more severe. Great people, independent spirit, fresh, clean, air. I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind winter and who loves the outdoors. Just a thought.

You might find New Hampshire to be left of center compared to your present state of Illinois- especially outside of the Chicago area. New England -New Hampshire 'conservative' will likely be more to the left of Illinois then you realize. The state is conservative on economic issues- liberal on social issues. Guns are not a major issue in NH- but the state in regards to firearms is more 'liberal' then most of the northeast. I doubt you will find the 'open guns' issue satisfactory for your needs in NH.

The smear and fear game seems to be the primary method of the extreme right to pied piper the unknowing- to vote against their own interests.

jonunil seems to have never come back for his answers, and hasn't posted since last February. This subject has been beaten to death and isn't going anywhere positive.

I think I'll close it..
