Default Are there any recreational activities in Montpelier and Northfield?

I hope to vacation in Stowe, VT within the next year, but I would also like to take a day trip to Montpelier and Northfield. Is that possible? (Distance/Time wise) Also what recreational activities do these two towns offer?
Thank You!

Montpelier has a nice pathway from downtown then over the Winooski. Hubard Park behind the Statehouse has great x-c skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and hiking in the summer.

Can't really come up with any recreational activities in Northfield. Maybe hiking along the Dog River. There is a golf course as well. Neither has anything close to what the Stowe area has to offer.

Thanks for your reply. I have a son who will be a freshman in high school this next year and I was hoping we could take a tour of Norwich University. Do you know if they give individual tours?
