I also have noticed less bat activity around my property, however, I have also noted that the bug situation this year is better than in years past. I have yet had to use Deet repellent this year while working or hiking around outside. The White Nose Syndrome affecting bats is being researched and it may be years before we really know it's cause and long term effects. While it is a concern and should be understood I am not losing sleep over it as in all probability it is a natural phenomena which will run it's course and bat populations will rebound to a natural balance.

When we were out walking the cats just now, I saw a car sporting the bumpersticker, "Batty about Bats!" Looks like the car's owner did this Adopt A Bat program.
Seconds later, we saw that the neighbor whose backyard abuts ours had put up a nice bat house.
Guess we've got bats on the brain.

I put up a bat house but I don't think any bats are living there. My property is completely surrounded by trees and butted up a against the bottom of a mountain, so we don't have one place that gets a lot of sun. Bat houses need a lot of sun to keep the house warm for baby bats.
A lot of people do care. A couple of years ago we had a bat living in the corner of our front porch after the other bats took off for caves as frigid weather was approaching. I spoke to a woman in Bennington who was willing to drive 2.5 hours each way to get the bat and put it in a heated bat enclosure (in her house) where she kept bats in the winter. I eventually poked the bat with a broom handle and it finally flew away, but I was impressed someone cared that much about a bat.

We used to have a lot of bats flying around the barn. That was about two years ago. Now we are lucky if we see one. We never had to worry about mosquitos but now we are getting bit.

We also have more skeeters. We've been using Amazon Lights cones and incense sticks. The cones have been a godsend for us. The single candle doesn't work at all. We have a covered porch, so the cone smoke stays in the air. Skeeters hate it. It's not 100 percent effective, but it is a huge improvement. They are a little smoky and smell like a 70's pot party however. I'm not sure how effective they'd be in the open. They aren't effective in the wind.
