Do you have a job lined up?
Do you want urban, suburban, or rural?
Essex and South Burlington probably have the best reputation for schools followed by the Champlain Valley Union HS District (Shelburne, Charlotte, Williston & Hinesburg).

do you hunt and fish?
JOB?
Can you stand long winters (6 months)
Do you have alot of money to spend on housing and property tax

I hear the schools are decent (reason why property taxes are so high?)

Do you mind not having anywhere to shop for new clothing or the incredibly rude people that refuse to help you with making a sale.

Do you like ethnic food that taste good...none here.

I live in Williston, with two kids. I really enjoy the community and the schools. We moved from NH. Listen to the negativity with some perspective of where you are moving from. That'll make a difference. For instance, I am fine with the property tax because they were even higher in NH. And at least I get good schools here! We also value the greater sense of community there is here.

As far as things to do with kids...you will find that there are a ton of family-friendly festivals here. Besides that, there are a lot of free outdoor things to do here - bike riding, hiking, playgrounds, etc. What you won't find are those big indoor complexes that have sprung up in other states for kids - the indoor play areas, water parks, inflatable gyms, etc. We have the good ol' YMCA here though!

We moved from a more urban area, yet we find a lot more things to do here. We love it!

The job thing does ring true. It's a small population market, so the job market is of the same scale. Hopefully you can line up a good one before you move.
