Ahh Brattleboro - flowers in blooms, green hills, nude hippie old guys walking down Main Street.

<sniff> makes me miss the old hometown.

BRATTLEBORO -- It's springtime, when flowers bloom, trees gain a new growth of leaves and sun worshippers take their clothes off in the Harmony Parking Lot.

Give me the occasionally kooky locals any day.

Spare me the traffic Jams, drive by shootings, and mall culture. I'll also pass on the McMansions, sprawl and utter lack of civic engagement...

and give me a side order of Ben and Jerry's!

;-)

Where I am going I am far more disgusted by the outward displays
of gratutitious, over-the-top self indulgant bourgeous than those
of some dusty old naked hippy.

From the brou-ha-ha last year, as reported by WCAX:

16} NUDITY_VO
Brattleboro residents may be forced to keep their clothes on. The select board says recent complaints about young people gathering downtown naked-- could prompt an ordinance making public nudity illegal. But the proposal is already under protest. Five men stripped behind a downtown business over the weekend-- to show their objections.

Was that a little wry Vermont humor that crept into the newscast?
I've never heard them called objections before.

Watching Perry Mason will never be the same. I'll want to cover my eyes whenever I hear "Objection, your honor!"

Mind you, thinking back to some of the people I've met from Brattleboro, the select board idea of having them keeping their clothes on sounds like a great idea.

Objections. So that's what they're calling them nowadays. In leggo's clipped news item there is an advertisement that doesn't show up, at least on my screen. Coppertone perhaps?

Think the real question would be why would a adult want to hang it all out, where there are children present. You want to wander nude, do it where there are no children present. Tell ya If I had my kids there and someone walked in front of them nude, I would call the cops and press charges for lude and lascivious conduct with a child. Nudist have rights yes, But not in a public place with minors. Of course I am also the guy that would toss out a $5 if the kids are not with me and ask them to dance. Can you drink in public there as well. LOL

Then in that we must have different attitudes toward nudity. If you care to see it as prurient and lewd then that's your choice. I see it as natural and nothing to be ashamed of. I doubt my kids will see anything they can't ask a question about and that I can't answer frankly and informatively. Maybe it's my Scandinavian heritage showing, but I think there enough things to worry about than my daughter seeing man's weewee and my son a woman's woowoo in a non-sexual context. We're ridiculously puritanical in this country.
