Question Places for Young Children

My family will be moving next spring to the Burlington area. We a planning a trip up there for the end of June to help us get a better feel for the area. What other things are there to do besides the Beach and the EchoCenter in Burlington with young children. Our kids will be ages 4 yrs and 18 mo. when we come in June. Also for those who already live in the Burlington area do you find the city to be family/kid friendly?

Thanks again for any info!
Angela

Angela -

I have 2 kids (they are in High School now - they've grown on me!) and I think this is a very family friendly area.

May I suggest The Shelburne Museum? There's nothing like it, ...anywhere! Your kids are still a bit young to enjoy it fully - but so are the legions of school children who are taken there every year in school groups. That doesn't stop most of them from coming back as adults. Returning grownups bring thier own kids and that ensures a fresh perspective. The first time I went as a small child I was enthralled, and even more so as an adult!

You missed the official Kids Day celebrations in Burlington this weekend. But there's always plenty to do with kids whenever you come! I'd suggest the callendar sections of The Burlington Free Press as well as the even better calendar in Seven Days, a local weekly.

It's too bad you can't come in early June instead...

Cheers,
David

There is also the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory.
If it's bad weather and you feel like pizza, go to Pizza Putt. The 4 year old will love it. It's a pizza place with indoor amusements including mini-golf. It's on Airport Parkway at the end of the airport runway and is a bit hard to find if you don't know where you are going. Ask a local and they'll get you there.

Thanks for the tips. I know we'll miss kids days. It looks like so much fun but we wanted to get an idea of what things would be like on a "normal" weekend. I can't wait to be there next year for it. Also many thanks for the Pizza Putt idea. It sounds like a great place for lunch.

Some other ideas...the Audubon Center in Huntington. Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury. Morgan Horse Farm in Middlebury. Take a ride on the ferry or one of the "cruise" boats.
