Cell Phone Service
I am considering moving to the St. Albans area next spring and am wondering what the best cell phone service is. I know the reception isn't great all the time! I have T-Mobile now, which picks up Canadian signals when I am up there, and my fiance has Verizon, and has had no problems. Any help would be appreciated.

We had Verizon in Rutland area and won the lottery more times
than we got reception. In fact anywhere, once you hit the NY thru-way
was iffy at best . Can you hear me ? NO !!!
Now , we have cheepo Virgin pay-as-you-go's and the reception
has been good.

I have good luck with Verizon. But I'm in Burlington.
When I renewed my contract with Verizon, they had recently changed my plan so that Montreal was not a local call for me - which is a problem for me. Reception in Montreal is dandy, of course. but it's not free like California is...even Verizon to Verizon.

I believe the only games around are Verizon and Unicel. I have Unicel and have spotty coverage outside Burlington. In greater Burlington, I've got good coverage. I've heard better about Verizon, but I guess it all depends on where you are.

I lived in St.Albans for 10 years and Verizon was the only carrier that I liked. The customer service was not the best, however, I always had service and very rarely lost a call. You have my vote for Verizon!

T-Mobilie has horrible Vermont service as you have already discovered. We have friends from MA who visit us and just turn off their phones when they visit because they know their phones are useless. I travel the State of Vermont for work and will only use Verizon. St. Albans has strong Verizon service. I also find the service on I-89 between St. A and Burlington to be fine. Best of luck with your move and hope you love VT as much as we do.

One thing about Verizon is I had to contact the VT Attorney General
to get them to release us from our contract. Our contract was up
in Nov. of 2006 so we called in Oct. to confirm we did not want the
service anymore. The last day specified by our contract will be the last
day of our service, even though this should have been unecassary.
Sure enuff, we kept recieving bills until March when I contacted the
Attorney General. Each month, we called and explained we honored
the contract THEY wrote, so why cant they ? Each month they assured
us it was taken care of, and sure enuff, a month later we would recieve
a bill and a threatening notice. None of our calls to Customer Service
were on record conveniently enuff and when the Attorney General got
involved, Verizon called us back wanting to resolve the issue. The
problem now is that they want to call Dec. 2006 our shut-off date
for some reason we cant figure out, so it is not over yet. In otherwards,
be wary if you are going to cancel your service.....they employ AOL
tactics that are very frustrating to deal with.

We've had similar problems "communicating" with Verizon. Each person we dealt with on the phone seemed to be starting from scratch, and it was as if nobody kept records.
We're still with Verizon, and (thankfully) finally straightened out our contract/billing/customer service problems.
But what do I know, I've gotten a similar run-around from Apple Computer, so perhaps it's just me ;-)

I have Unicel and don't have a contract. I've been with them for 5 ish years, so that may be why.
