In sheer sales terms there's no doubt Diablo 3 has been a big success. Blizzard, the creator of the game, claims it is the fastest-selling PC game so far.
But the jury is still out on whether one aspect of the game, its real-money auction house, is the success that Blizzard wants, and perhaps needs, it to be.
In the UK, the company pockets a £1 fee per item sold in the real-money auctions and 15% of the final sale price for commodities, including gold.
Nothing new to see here. Every game attracts get rich gamers, mainly chinese companies that exploit, run bots, farm gold etc.
True, interesting move by Blizz' though to make it a key feature in Diablo when they've traditionally come down so hard on those that do it in WoW. Although they don't police WoW anything like they used to.

That's because WOW is a dying game. They'll get a bump in subscriptions when the Pandaria expansion comes out, and then it will slowly trickle away again. 90% of the people I used to play with have moved on to other games at this point. I actually tried to get back into WOW, but it only took about 3 days for me to get bored with it again.
