The N64 was ground breaking
When the ps1 came out it had problems with lack of quality games.
Titles like Resident Evil and madden football saved the ps1

NJBest is right. The NES was competing with the Atari and Segas SG-1000. 10 years later, the SNES was competing directly with the Sega Genesis. Then the N64 was competing with the PS1. Sega attempted to compete against the PS1 and N64 with the Sega Dreamcast but it failed miserably.

The Dreamcast was really the first of the sixth-generation consoles (along with PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox).

The fifth-generation Sega console was the Saturn. I bought one in May 1995 for... $400.

I wouldn't say either the Saturn or Dreamcast failed miserably, but they definitely didn't win. The Saturn's architecture wasn't up to Playstation standards, with only one game really showing its potential (Virtua Fighter 2). Even then, the Saturn eventually had a lot of quite decent games (especially in Japan).

The Atari Jaguar, now that's a system that failed miserably.

In the late 90s I only had a PSX/PS1, however I prefer the N64. Much better first person shooters, platformers, and multiplayer games. It is my favorite out of all of Nintendos consoles.

Games like Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark (6+AI multiplayer), Mario Kart 64, all revolutionized the industry.
Playstation had Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider etc. However, the N64 was far more powerful graphic wise over the Playstation [You would never see a game as good looking as Zelda or Turok 2 for PSX]. Many game devs favored the PSX over the N64 due to the fact that it was much easier to make games on a CD.

The Nintendo 64 is better in pretty much every way.

I had both. While PS1 had many great games such as Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid, N64 did a better job as a console to play with friends with the four controller slots compare to the PS1 and the annoying multi-tap.

I remember playing Goldeneye, Winback, Mario Kart, Perfect Dark, WCW/NWO Revenge, WWF No Mercy, Mario Party, Super Smash Bros with other people and a great selection of single player games like Jet Force Gemini, Kirby 64 and Ocarina of Time.

I'll see your Goldeneye and raise you Final Fantasy! lol

I used to have a lot more but these are the only games I've kept. All first editions bought shortly after they were released! I refuse to sell them.
