I've been an Xbox guy but I'm almost certain I'm gonna switch to PS4 next year. All I want is a game console, not a home entertainment center... a console that plays awesome looking games that come on an old school disk with an old-school controller. Is that too much to ask?
I just have an XBOX, and liked what I saw with the XBOX One.
I do use my current XBOX for Netflix more than gaming though.
I like kinect and the improvements they've made to the controller. I like the simple design and the fact that it's quieter.

So if anything, there was almost no doubt that I was going to get the XBOX first, then maybe a few months, to a year later, I'd get the PS4 especially if there are some really good exclusive games.
I think it is still too early to tell. Price has not yet been discussed. Also, I refuse to be an Early Adopter who becomes a guinea pig that has to deal with the hardware/software issues.
To me, price and reliability rumors are going to basically make my decision for me.

I think the price for PS4 got leaked and they said it would be $399.
I'd assume the One would be around that price as well.
My 360 did have the RROD, about 2 years into it's lifespan and I had to send it in (it was covered under warranty).
It's still running fine (albeit loud) to this day.

I'm not really worried about potential problems, and the price should be around the same for both.
The PS4 is the more powerful (graphically) of the two and focuses on the "cloud."
Whereas the Xbox focuses on TV, and being a media box.
Honestly both need to carve a niche and be done with it.
I know my kid is still deciding on which console he wants for Xmas (he currently has the PS3) but he's also aware of and are waiting for more details on
- policy/ability to sell/buy used games on the PS4/Xbox One
- how quickly interesting games will be available
- whether XBox Live rates will be raised
- whether XBox reliability will be improved
- whether internet connection is -required- to play anything on the XBox One
If anything, the fact that they will continue to release new titles on the PS3 will slow down any transition to the new consoles.
Since MS is sooo insistent on making the Kinect an integral part of Xbox1, a gimmick which I despise with a passion; I'll be spending my money on Sony and Nintendo next generation.

owned and NES, Sega Genesis & GameGear, Missed all of Generation 5, then owned a PS2, PSP Just bought my PS3 2 months ago. Sony is the way to go for me. Xbox has to many shooters and bro gamers. Nintendo...well they lost me on Mortal Kombat back in 92. So the PS4 will be my next console, but no time soon. Got a lot of PS3 gems to catch up on and the games are getting cheaper.
I already switched sides last year and will be sticking with Sony next gen. I just like their games more, plus the free online doesnt hurt either.
I love the PSN interface, its really too bad they didnt have PSN during the PS2 days. Does Nintendo even have achievements yet?
