This Christmas I want to get my dad a game console. I don't know that much about them since I don't play any video games. I threw out the hint about getting him one and he seemed interested!

My dad is fifty and he doesn't have too many interests. He likes movies and music, etc. He has a bluray player and satellite and a 70" TV. I wanted to get him a console because I thought he might get into gaming. Back in the day we had a Nintendo and he enjoyed playing Mario. I took a look at the WiiU bundle and Smash Bros and all those games are available on there, but it seems like the rest of the games available are mostly just stuff for kids that my dad wouldn't be interested in. As far as games go, I wouldn't want him to be limited with his choices when he goes out to buy games.

So would a PS4 be better,? An XBox One or 360? I just have no clue lol.

67 here. Been gaming a long time. We have a Wii, a Ps3 and a PS4. Never owned an Xbox.

We both play and are glad we ended up with PlayStation all those years ago. Our units have been very reliable, bug free, and the selection of games is amazing.

The Wii is on a closet shelf. Both PlayStaions are hooked to the TV. We are going to get the Wii out pretty soon, there are some games we like, but not that many. As you noted so many of them are aimed at children.

I'd go with the Wii U, X Box One or PS4.

Go with a PS4 ...they just came out with the Nathan Drake Collection which includes Uncharted 1-3 . I have only played the first Uncharted and it is very good but I hear the other two are even better. Also, if your dad likes sports I think the sports games, like Madden 16, play better on the PS4 than the XB1.

Also, Uncharted 4 comes out next spring. Look up the game play vids on youtube. Amazing!

If he isn't too concerned about online gaming, I'd pick up a ps3, or 360, it would depend on what games, and game genre he would like the most, as both have specific games only on one console, or the other. If he liked Forza, then a 360, or he was more in to Gran Turismo, then a ps3

The Nathan Drake collection is for the PS4 as well.

I agree that the Uncharted series are fun games. We've played them all, and we are waiting impatiently for 4.

I think the PS4 controller is slightly more user-friendly than the XB1, otherwise they're fairly comparable. Even though he'd just be a beginning "gamer", I wouldn't bother with a Wii. He may get into it more than you (or he) think at first, and wish he had access to all the new games which have & will come out.

I'd get him a PlayStation 4. With such a large installed userbase the PS4 is sure to have the best games during its life-cycle.
