I'm wondering if someone can explain Minecraft modding to someone unfamiliar with Minecraft.
I have read about Minecraft consuming endless hours of time, and then I have read that parents get excited because their kids are learning coding by modding Minecraft.
Is this really the case? That kids that play huge amounts of Minecraft are actually honing their coding skills, so they might become CS majors in college? Or am I misunderstanding something?
There is certainly potential to do that. Though you don't need to get that involved just to install a basic pre-made mod. Make sure that backups are made as I know several folks whose kids screwed up their computer while installing minecraft mods. Gotta be careful with malware rampant.
I credit my computer science career to early 80s video games which were much more basic. But certainly not everyone who plays video games does that.
