We're just not really into this "virtual" exercise craze. We have friends that play Wii tennis, golf, etc. We just like to get out and play the real thing. I also feel like that about health clubs. I'd rather not ride a stationary bike or ski machine when I can just do the real thing.

As far as video games, I just bought my kids (7 and 4) a Game Cube and a GameBoy Advanced just to have it around. Yep, years after these systems came out. No $400 WII or $600 PS3 for them. I know they'd end up playing it a few times and getting over it anyway so all I'd be doing is saying good bye to hundreds of dollars that'll soon collect dust. Besides I don't want them getting addicted to it. My ex husband was a gameaholic and never left the TV... (Even to go to work! Hence... my EX husband lol) So yeah, I only bought it just so they have a "back-up" thing to do when they're bored. They actually played it like once or twice and haven't picked it up since. They prefer to be outside and do the whole bike, skateboard, running around thing. I'm glad.

Not saying you should to buy it, but the Wii is $250. Just fixing the fact for others reading it.

Really? My mistake. I went to Gamestop the other day to buy them a GBA game and I saw a USED Wii for $299... So I figured the new one is more... (My sister said she paid $400 last year) Okie dokey... My bad.

Have you ever noticed that men who are still playing these games into their twenties almost all seem to be social retarded?
My kids get to play computer games two hours a week. That's it. Then it's find a friend for them.

Dude (yep, I said dude)... My (then) 30 year old ex husband was a videogamaholic. He would literally sit in front of the TV ALL DAY and not step a foot outside the house. He got up to go eat (if he got that starved) and go to the bathroom (unless he wanted to **** in his pants). He barely had any friends and the ones that he did have, were either low lives like him, or 16 or 17 years old looking for a place to hang out. Mind you I'd known him for 8 years and he wasn't like this the first year we were married... I think he was trying to act "normal" and impress me then once we said I do, out came the real him.
Anyway, socially, he didn't know how to treat people, he was an *ss, couldn't keep a job, smoked marijuana daily, and had VERY twisted views and ways of thinking. And by that, I mean VERY twisted. No social manners, BAD social habits, and plain could not comprehend normal thinking. Now I don't know if it was the weed or the video games, but hell... It could be both! lol. He is one grown man (age-wise) that I know was majorly impacted by sitting your butt down in front of video games all day. And that my friend is why I don't want my kids playing video games. (Hopefully the stupid gene didn't get passed down...)
FYI... the asterisked word up there ^^^... Umm, it's p i s s, not the other bathroom duty. Had to let you know in case you were wondering. lol. And really mods... p i s s ...? What's wrong with that word?

just a side note....a few years ago I underwent a heart catheterization.....[you're awake during the entire procedure] as I was watching this probe slide up through my artery and into my heart, the cardiologist remarked that if he wasn't a video game addict he'd probably poke a hole in my heart....... YOU decide if video games can be a good thing......

Your ex was a loser with social problems. He sought refuge in video games, but could just as easily have done so with alcohol, drugs, pornography or sex. There's a big difference between a hobbyist gamer and someone whose life is consumed by an addiction. I know plenty of 20-something professionals, myself included, who enjoy playing video games in their off-time. It is a form of entertainment that we were raised with-like television or Monopoly or kick ball.

I know exactly what you're saying. And no, he was not a hobbyist playing on just his "off" time. He was an addict who played through the entire day hence losing jobs, distancing himself from society, etc... The post was mainly a "haha" type vent post. He had problems well beyond the scope of the post which I chose to not get into for sake of time and going off subject. (Depression, anxiety, etc...) BTW, I'm a Final Fantasy geek, so by no means do I oppose to it. I was just saying I don't want my kids doing it all day like some kids. (And I was just replying to the guy's post regarding something about social retardation... just thought my ex applied to that )
