Nintendo Wii and peripherals

What is up with the Wii and the peripherals? Everything is always out of stock. I just bought the Wii Fit after searching for a few weeks.

Is this just a marketing ploy to make just enough to keep demand high and not having to discount the product - or is there just so much demand that the companies cannot keep up?

Blame it on the weak dollar. Nintendo is producing all of its products that it can, but the dollar has dropped a bunch since the list price of the Wii was set. Nintendo sends a higher percentage of Wiis and Wii Fits to countries other than the US because it makes more money from sales in countries with strong currency.

It took a long time before I actually got the Wii Fit Balance Board. Today, I set it up and put on We Ski and my daughter preferred to play without it. Weeks of searching, phone calls, and driving everywhere. Go figure.
