Games for PS2 for 5 year olds.
My son is 5 years old and loves to watch me play my PS2 game Dragon Quest VIII which i do once a week on saturday mornings for about 45 min or so. (yes it does take me a long time to beat it that way haha)
Anyhow i was thinking, are there any games for PS2 for a beginner gamer?
All the kids games i've seen have been reviewed pretty poorly.
I should also mentioned he JUST turned 5 and can't read yet. So I need a game that isn't prompted by reading.
Any suggestions??

I know, it's hard to find info if a game would be suitable for a child. My 5yo DD got PS2 for her 5th birthday, and started with Grand Turismo, rated E (everyone) - it's just a car on a racing track. The game taught her hands steadiness. You can choose makes, models, color and a city or wilderness track. Not much reading, once you teach her/him the steps.
The same idea was with ATV Off-road Fury game.
At about 5.5 she got to liking a SpongeBob game. It has spots where the player has to read, but the characters speak the same at the same time. After a while, kids just skip the talking/reading parts. The game has many different places to go and discover, so still after about 5-6 months, she's perfecting her adventure.
My younger son, 4, has seen her play the game so many times that he's getting very good at it himself. Once someone goes through steps with a non-reading child, they pick up. Though it would be nice to be able to know what it's about, beforehand.
She played some with the Cars game (from the Cars movie), the same idea as Spongebob, but it didn't stick with her as well.
They are not interested in Finding Nemo game, at all, and I'm not sure why.
There is a Curious George game in stores... Basically start with the characters that your child likes, and make sure it's rated E. Beyond that, it's a guess if they will like it.
To add: we got PS2 together with several games second-hand through a local online buy-n-sell board. Grand Tourismo and Off-Road Fury came with it, otherwise we would never know that they would be the easiest games for small kids. The other character games we got on Ebay.

Grand Theft Auto games. There isn't much reading involved, just let him at it and he'll go around shooting things, driving cars, etc, etc. It's really not as bad as you think it is, he'll learn it sooner or later.

I grew up playing video games from the age of 6 until present (29).
I would recommend any of the ratchet and clank games. The new ones are literally like playing a Pixar animated video game (the ps3 one is anyhow). Its fairly easy, cartoony violence, and he should be able to figure it out quick enough. You can probably pickup used copies for less than 20 bucks or new ones for 20 bucks.
I also would suggest picking up the sonic the hedgehog collection for PS2. I saw this one the other day in walmart for 19.99 and it comes with like four of the games. Its also 14.99 on amazon listed as the Sega mega collection. This is a simple, very PG rated game, where he just runs along collecting coins and making a hedgehog time loops and jumps. This is the Sega version of mario.
Any of the lego series games like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, or Batman. They are all very PG rated, funny cartoon lego looking guys, simple to figure out games, and some of them are fairly accurate of the movies. When I was five I was in love with legos so these ones would be a hit with me if I were a kid. These games are all 20 bucks brand new.
All of these games can be found in the top 60 under Amazon.com under the PS2 games section. No I do not work for Amazon.
