You mean SC 3.
Unless you really enjoying all that tedious mining stuff. SC 3 was far better.

Remember MSFS 1.0?
Yeah, that's really what it looked like.

No, I definitely meant SC 2. I bought SC 3 and was disappointed within an hour. It's so bad that most SC fans pretend SC 3 didn't happen, much like the 2nd Highlander movie.

I wish I could play a copy of that game where you build and run a doctor's clinic. I can't even remember what it's called off the top of my head.

You're one of those SC groupies aincha - if you gave it half a chance I think you'd see it was at the very least a very worthy successor - lots of great dialogue.
I got bored with SC2 in about 10 minutes. Mine this, mine that, scroll down to go here or there...happy to concede it has a great storyline but it takes you forever to do...well just about anything. And while I'm not one to get wrapped up in "fancy" graphics, playing SC3 and then going to 2 was like going from hi-def TV to an old black n white set from the 50s.

I'm not sure if the groupie comment was a dig or not, but anyway, I never said I didn't finish it, I just said I was disappointed within an hour. Old gaming reviews would tend to agree with me on SC2; IGN ranks it the 17th best game of all time, and Gamespot named it one of the greatest as well. The developers that did SC and SC2 didn't work on SC3, and it showed...and for the record, I didn't know that beforehand nor did I have any preconceived notions. The more I played it and the more they started doing with some of the races, the more I just didn't enjoy it. I mean, look at the Syreen, they are supposed to be able to lure crew out of other ships with their beauty and singing. They hit every branch on the ugly tree as they fell in SC3. As for the mining, if you know what you're doing, you really only have to hit maybe 15-20 planets. Considering that you can clean a planet in about 2 minutes tops (assuming you're only mining, not getting biological data) it's not so bad.

I used to play that "game" with the girl next door when we were little. We called it "doctor".

Its not even that old and works on XP but Age of Empires 2: Conquerors was by far the most fun game I have ever owned. It might even still be played online on gamespy or something but nobody ever plays post imp deathmatch anymore, which was by far the best way to play that game online.

I still play Tycoon City: New York, Call To Power II (the awesome Civ II clone that went into the future), and Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (the best RTS ever because of the Star Wars theme...plus, you can wipe out entire colonies of Gungans!). The game I wish I could play but seem to have trouble playing (even on DosBox) is Detroit, which was the best company simulation game of all time. I also really enjoyed Dino Park Tycoon, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and Pirates!
Oh yeah, and I really wish I could play Crystal Quest, the old game that was the first ever Color Mac game way back in the day. Those sound effects were awesome!
