Default If you are looking for a good video converter

but have read bad things about the products from Aura4You then read on.

This is a highly rated product and the trial version I downloaded was the best I found.

The problem that I read about over and over and over in reviews was that after purchasing the software it would not accept the user name and activation code they send you in an email.

Well the same thing happened to me. I tried a number of times and got nowhere. Halfway through writing an email to the publishers I had an idea.

I went back to their website and download the program again. I reinstalled it over the original, opened the activation window put in the information, and it worked!

So if you've been thinking about their software and haven't bought it because of the activation problems people keep reporting - go ahead and buy it.

For $50 you get access to all their software and if the rest are as good as the converter it's a really good deal.

For conversions Super will do about anything. Web site is little cheesy but it's excellent tool...and free.

I went to the SUPER website and I did not see m2ts listed, which the HD format my camera uses.

I use TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress. Not real cheap, not the fastest, but it's terribly reliable and works with just about any format.

Quote:
HDTV TS (Transport Stream) and M2TS (BluRay) converter Convert any supported input file to TS or M2TS.
Convert TS or M2TS files to any other format.
For the record that's not a format, like AVI or MOV it's container file and can contain many types of video.

Can I ask why you are converting it?

One reason I ask is one mistake many people make is not keeping the source. Keep in mind any conversion = loss in quality and that can range from minor to substantial. Always keep copy of the source for conversion preferably two in separate physical locations.

I'm converting it because most players won't recognize it. I've got Windows Media Player, Nero, and a few others and they have no clue what M2TS is.

Playing them isn't the only problem. If I want to post one on the Internet they have to be converted. The quality I'm seeing after conversion is very acceptable. I've not checked the resolution after converting, but it looks great on our 46" LCD TV!

Well if you were going to invest some cash I would have suggested this:

Video-editing software – Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1175714228541#tabview=tab0 - broken link)

That's editor/authoring program.

You can also try to install this: ffdshow | Get ffdshow at SourceForge.net

You *should* be able to open them with most video players and Windows Media encoder.

Right now HD is same boat DVD was in the eraly part of the decade, usually the codecs were installed via a software DVD player like PowerDVD. You can't play DVD with XP out of the box. I believe Windows 7 has native support for the HD formats.

All you have to do is install a MPEG-2 TS splitter, like Haali media splitter.
