moving
Hi, I am a single mother of 2 daughters, a dog and a cat. We are leaving FL in search of a more simple life. I have worked in the dental field for 25 years and should not have a problem finding a job. I am havinf a problem finding where in VA to move. I would like to find a small town near, Horse Pasture or Stausburg. I would like some input on where I should be looking. What are the schools like? Any church youth groups for a 12 and 15 year old? Any input is appreciated. Thanks, dk

Warrenton, VA
Hi:
I just noticed your post. If you are looking for horse pastures, then Fauquier County could be right for you. I live in Warrenton, which is in Fauquier. There are abundant horse farms in this area, and lots of equistrian activities, like Gold Cup and Point to Point races.
I work for the school system here. I have to say I prefer it way over the bigger systems in the area. I have lived in Fairfax and Loudoun counties, and my children have gone to those schools. Fauquier is very down home friendly. The schools are up to date with technology etc. There are 2 HS in the county, both of which are overcrowded, but a new HS is being built, and to be honest, my youngest son just graduated and LOVED Fauquier HS. You can check out the school website at www.fcps1.org
I belong to Warrenton United Methodist Church in Warrenton. I know there is a great youth group in that church, which does alot of fun activities and also alot of outreach. There are many many churches here, and I know that there are several with nice youth groups.
You didn't mention housing. The prices of houses here is kind of high. Fauquier is part of Northern Va, and the prices all over this area are high. Still I have seen houses here in the $250's. Also if a th would work for you then there are several in Warrenton that are cheaper. If you go out further you might be able to find a single with some land in the $300's.
I hope this helps.........

Thank you for the advice, but I am looking at Horse Pasture, Virginia. Not horse pastures.

Sorry for the confusion, but you also said near Strausburg, and Fauquier County is near there.

Oh, didnt know there was such a bird..... Horse Pasture is in Henry County and I don't really know anything about that region. I couldn't even find Stausburg on Google, so I'm not sure where you're referring to there. If you're talking about Strasburg I can help....

oops spelled it wrong.
I have been referring to Strasburg. I spelled it wrong, and probably wrongly assumed the author of this thread did also. Sorry if I added to any confusion.

I didn't take offense at what you said. I was reading all the posts again and realized that I had misspelled Strasburg. I also mistakenly thought that the author was asking about horse pastures, not a place called Horse Pasture.

I'm looking into moving to VA as well. Horse Pasture is in Henry County and that county is home to the NASCAR races in Martinsville. I don't know if that would bother you or not, but the noise and crowds would bother me.
One of the posters told me one would have to live about 5 - 7 miles from the raceway (I believe that's what he said) so the noise wouldn't be heard.
Just a thought.......
