Thoughts about Elkton (near Staunton, Waynesboro & Lury..etc)
Greetz,
Looking at a home in the mountains just outside Elkton,...
Elkton seems pretty small and 'basic',....but with Luray and Staunton close-by (which we love)...and with Charlottesville 40 minutes away, this area 'appears' to be very centrally located and nice.
Anyone have any knowledge or concerns with the area?
btw - We do not care about 'being close to nightlife..etc..etc.) we want privacy and seclusion.

Well, was going to mention Harrisonburg as even closer as far as necessities are concerned.... Luray is a gorgeous area too...
Not sure I can offer a lot of opinions on Elkton as I really don't know much about it.

Thx,...and yes I thought Luray was nice as well. Luray is obviously 'touristy' to some degree,....
We very much love the mountains, and liked the area around Wytheville due to its epic mountainscapes.....but the thought of living adjacent to the Shenandoah Natl Park, with the other quaint towns around and such seems like a great mix of stuff to do, while still being in a rural area....
Anyone else?

If you are not interested in much night life, you will love Luray. It's very rural and you can get a lot of real estate for your money. Taxes are also low there compared to other parts of Virginia. You will certainly get the privacy and seclusion you want.
Charlottesville is close and Winchester is also close if you need a really good hospital.
If you choose to explore on weekends there are lots of places to see if you are interested in scenic things like Skyline Drive, etc.
It is a very slow and quiet pace of living, though, in Luray which would drive me nuts but many people absolutely love it and wouldn't live anywhere else.
Best of luck in your search!!!

thx sweet-t.
It's funny though,,.....I think Luray (the historic part) is really fun!...BUT it is way too crowded for me to 'live' in it.....I am looking for more rural.
I like what Staunton offers, I like what Charlottesville offers and I like Luray,.....love the woods, hiking..etc..etc.....which is why we have gone into contract on a property east of 'Elkton',
Which is surrounded by Shen. Natl. Park, and is a short drive to all the above places without having to LIVE in any of the above places.
I'm just looking for other people's opinions on the whole Staunton/Cville/Luray/Harrisonburg Shenandoah Valley in general area....
thx!
