im making a trip to knoxville in early-mid may...
and being my income is fixed ive decided taking my tent along might be the best idea to save some cash on the overnights...

im not looking for anything fancy, clean bathrooms, simple shower facilities would be great with good rates for a small tent. it would literally be arrive early evening, quick set up, shower dinner and bed gone the next morning kind of set up...
i dont need anything fancy as i wont be spending much time there lol.

ill be traveling along I81 and was hoping to make the night somewhere between strasburg and harrisonburg

does anyone know of a little campground, easy on/off the high way thats cheap for tent camping that has camping standard clean bathrooms (ive camped plenty, by clean i simply mean lights work there not falling apart, and the waters clean, the option for a hot shower would be nice too.

being ill be alone having a rangers station or check in point thats manned (just for added saftey) would be another big bonus.

also im seeing average may temps for virginia in the mid 70's for may, does this sound about right? ive camped cold before, but its all about the prep.
and i know nothing about that area.

any suggestions/links would be WONDERFULL, im searchign online, but id love to know of other peoples experiences.

right now battle of cedar creek campground is looking to be the best bet at $10 a night for a basic tent spot.

looked at candy hill and they want $36 a night for a tent spot *blink blink*

I don't know if it's too far south, but outside of Staunton/Stuarts Draft, which is another half hour below Harrisonburg, there is a campground. It's called Walnut Hills KOA Campground. Probably the easiest route there would be to go to the Greenvile/US 340 interchange, turn left on 340, and then hang a left on Walnut Hill Rd.I've never stayed there, but have had friends who have and they seemed to like it. Sorry I can't give more specific information. It's maybe 5-10 minutes off of i81.

Natural Bridge has a campground right off I-81, literally. You can throw a ball to the enterance from the interstate. It's just south of Lexington; about 40 minutes south of Harrisonburg. Search Natural Bridge Virginia. As for temps, in early May the day temps can stay as low as 60, just check before you go. There are a number of other campgrounds although they are not 'close' to the interstate.
