I moved to NoVA in September 2010 and my gross taxable income was $9100 from Sept 27, 2010-Dec 31, 2010. I had around $410 withheld for state taxes.

The filing threshhold for 2010-2011 is $11,650.

Does that mean if I file a return, I get my $410 back?

I'm new to paying state taxes...I moved here from Texas. Thanks, guys!

You would be best to speak with a tax specialist. Because you were a VA resident for only part of the year you will file a special form were taxes will be due on Virginia income earned from Sept - Dec.

I moved out of Virginia in mid-2010 to Kentucky and made a little over $10k (gross) in VA and got refunded all the tax I had withheld (around $410.) You have to file a part-year resident return form called 760PY. I just did mine through TaxAct.
