Default Do Virginians hate Marylanders?

Do Virginians hate Marylanders? I've always wondered that. It seems like they do a lot. is that true?

Are you absolutely sure it seems that way? I've lived all over the state and other states. I can say with confidence that the average Virginian, Southerner, West Coaster ect. is oblivious to MD. In NoVA I've never known anyone who hated Marylanders, NoVA, DC, and MD are basically the Washington DC Area, including the residents and they're all the same. It seems from what I've read that people from the outside looking in (like myself) see all of the hate coming from one side in the "VA vs MD War" even though everyone in the area seems to know someone from each other's states/District. If you could provide an example of this hate then it would be the first time I've heard it

Ah, I just read that thread. A true Virginian doesn't criticize other states or behave so immodestly. Even other people who move into the state don't behave that way! I definitely wouldn't perceive that particular comment as hate towards your state though.

Please don't judge all of us by our worst specimen.

Seriously, I'm from Northern Virginia and I've never heard any sort of hate, or even intense dislike, towards Marylanders. There's really not much difference between the two sides. I don't see how or why anyone would hate them.

There's some people on this board who are obsessed with their home states. This holds just as true for Virginia as it does for Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, etc. and for whatever reason, feel the need to trash other states and react to any sort of criticism of their home state as if you had just insulted their child. These people are just plain weird and don't represent the majority opinion of any state I'd gather. While there may be some light-hearted ribbing between states, most people are pretty indifferent to people in other states.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Maryland or most Marylanders in any bit, but that has been due to personal experiences. However, for most Northern Virginians, I wouldn't say there's any animosity or rivalry towards Marylanders. I think there's more neutrality between the two states than anything else.

I lived in Maryland for a number of years and am currently attending one of its universities. The experiences I've had are...shall I say, very unpleasant, especially compared to when I was in NoVA.

Southern Maryland, Northern Virginia, D.C. same thing.

A person from Bethesda or Rockville seems just like a person from Arlington, Fairfax, or NW D.C.
