I just received a citation for reckless driving in Chesterfield, VA. It was apprx. 9:30 pm when I saw what I thought to be an accident on a ramp onto I-95S. I slowly backed up apprx. 20 meters with full view of oncoming traffic in my mirrors and then went to continue on Rt. 10 in Chesterfield when I was cut off by an officer. I was searched, given some field sobreity tests for DUI when I then denied permission for the officer to search my vehicle. I was issued a citation for reckless driving after discovering that it was actually a police checkpoint rather than an accident. I have a completely clean driving record, although I have only had a license for 1 year. I have never been warned, ticketed, pulled over, etc. What are my chances of getting this citation reduced to improper driving or getting it dismissed and just having to do driving school? How would I go about doing either one of these without a lawyer? I have read to show up to the court house early and look for the prosecutor. Is there anyway I can contact him/her before the court date? What if I have the first trial of the day? Thanks so much, I can provide additional details if needed.
