Va Beach is very humid. The temps lately have been awful highs in the mid nineties to almost 100. Palms are not native though to the area but I have seen a few around. Most only have a few leaves at the top and their entire trunks must be wrapped with plastic in order not to freeze as it does get quite cold in the winter here.

You have to get well into the NC beaches to see many palm trees and they aren't growing natively til you get well into SC. I lived in VA Beach for three years in the 80's and have been back many times and the humidity is about what you'd expect on the east coast. Nowhere near as high as FL. We had snow a couple of times when I lived there (2 inches or so) and there are definitely 4 seasons. VA Beach, like Ocean City, MD plants a few palms and replaces those that don't survive the winter. Most are at hotels that are responsible for them.

thank you. I have been to Virginia beach once about 6 years ago. And it struck me as a touristy/service town. I know I will have to visit again, but I am looking for a place with palm trees and a slight change of season where the leaves change.

You will need to go to South Carolina then. Too cold in the winter here for Palm Trees. the ones that are around are nurtured, not native.
