We recently have been looking at homes via the internet (considering for retirement) in Mechanicsville and Hanover - the stats on crime are low and I like that many of the lots are over an acre. Can anyone tell us about these two cities and other nice areas close by? Thank you very much.

Come to western Hanover. Less of a sprawl factor. Property taxes are higher than I like to see, but other than that all is well.

Thank you Electron - we would like to volunteer either at Montpelier or Colonial Williamsburg - is that a doable drive? Also, do you by any chance have zip codes for me for western Hanover? Thanks very much.

Montpelier is western Hanover, and absolutely beautiful countryside. Zip of 23192. That will put you just over an hour to Williamsburg.
