Well, here we go..

There I am, cruising down 295 in Hopewell, VA.. and bam! Blue lights. Sheriff said 84/70. Nicest cop in the world, though!

So now I begin calling law firms to get a quote and an idea of what to do. So far the two I've spoken with have been very friendly, but price wise, there is a HUGE difference between the two. They both said "don't take the driver improvement course", because they will try to get it reduced to a "defective equipment" charge, and the class wouldn't help that plea.

SO....

Lawyer #1 says legal fees would be: $500.00 plus the cost of the fine for defective equipment. This guy seemed pretty nonchalant about the whole thing, almost robotic.

Lawyer #2 says legal fees: $175.00, please the cost of the fine for defective equipment. This Lawyer also promised me he is "100%" with getting these reduced, and if he doesn't, he will APPEAL my case for FREE.

My driving record is clean.

WHAT would you do? I am almost skeptical about the $175.00 because it seems TOO GOOD to be true! Opinions? Who else has faced this? What did you pay?

Was he/she sitting in the red car? I'm on the section of 295 from Chester to Fort Lee quite a bit! 9 times out of town I see at least one police car on that section. And don't forget, you have four different jurisdictions in that small section... Chesterfield, Prince George, Hopewell and the State. I tell all of my clients to make sure they DO NOT SPEED on that section. Anyway...

Not sure who you checked with, and I'm not sure of the charges. You might want to try a third just for good measure. I have used Hill and Rainey for several work transactions and been pleased with the service.

Good luck!

I think attorney fees go by: Size of firm, years of practice, success rate and location. A lone attorney in a rural area / sleepy hollow will be cheaper. Price increases as the other criteria come into play. I personally would go with the cheapest, however don't expect to see him much if at all before your court date. With the expensive attorney you may get more meet-up time and also not have to appear in court because lawyers speak on your behalf anyway. I've seen that too but, I would personally show up.
