Default Thinking about moving to NOVA

I'm from Oklahoma City, and i'm planning on moving out of this state around July of next year. I visited DC recently and enjoyed it. I have a degree in political science and now work as an insurance agent. I make about 4 thousand a month after overhead.

I'm leaving Oklahoma cus I want a fresh new start. I'll be 30 in a couple of years and I never have gotten to make a big move in my life. I'm gay and also live in a red state which obviously doesn't mix well.

I would tolerate a 30 minute commute. Not sure if I would need my car but I would be fine in suburbia. I would like an affordable urban area though and not have a car.

Regarding the housing expense i could be fine with $800 - $1200 a month

What is it like finding jobs in NOVA. How would I go about saving perhaps 10k, living in hotels until I found a job and an apartment?

Have you posted on the DC and Northern VA Forums?

I would not recommend moving here until you do find a new job. Apts/housing is expensive here as you probably already know.

Unfortunately, NOVA does not have a transportation system like NYC. Living in a walkable are to a metro is competitive and there are bus routes, but it is quite limited.
