Default Central Virignia Relocate

I am interested in finding out about the area from Charlottesville to Lynchburg to Danville. We are originally from the Fingerlakes Region of New York and have been living on the Gulf Coast of Florida since 2005.

We moved from NY because of oppresive winters, lack of jobs and a chance to experience living near the ocean.

We found very good jobs and love the ocean but the reality is we will never be able to afford a home in this area. The traffic at a NASCAR race is safer then driving down here. The taxes and governmental fees are much less here but so are the services and infrastructure of the state compared to NY.

We would like to be within a days drive (12 hours) of our family that remained in NY. We are looking for an area where we could have a few chickens and have a garden and some fruit trees like we have had before. (My wife has drawn the line at no cows or horses again).

When we moved to FLorida, we were hoping to experience some of the "southern way of life". (Didnt realize once you got south of Ocala Florida it turned into the North again - just older!)

So if anyone could give us a hand and point us in the right direction for finding a location that has: job opportunities, houses that the working class can afford, a somewhat rural location, and that famous Southern hospitality and lifestyle, we would greatly appreciate it.

To:jbbooks..I think you should look into the town of Gretna, VA. It is south of Lynchburg, rather rural but within commuting distance of Lynchburg or Danville. Good Luck!!

Yeah I agree, my inlaws live around Gretna.. it is Really rural, but if you're looking for the southern way of life - there you go! I grew up in Appomattox and I loved it.. and my husband in Pamplin.I think you can find the southern way of life just about anywhere in Central VA.
