And now that Griffith is saying things like this:

"Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) released the following statement today after the House of Representatives voted to repeal President Obama’s health care bill:

“Nearly two weeks ago the Supreme Court ruled that ObamaCare, as a tax, was constitutional. In light of this finding, I joined a bipartisan group of my colleagues in the House today to again give the Senate a chance to reject this law. "

I'm all for helping him in his re-election, should we move there. So, things clearly aren't as bad as y'all are making it!

Well, if you "like" Morgan Griffin, then you would "love" Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN-1).

Another thing you aren't realizing is that VA is a "purple" state. If you are looking for reliable, conservative governance, VA isn't the place for you. Remember that this district was controlled by a Democrat for a better part of thirty years and Griffith has been a fairly low profile Congressman (much more so than Boucher or Jimmy Quillen was in TN). I wouldn't be surprised to see it go Democratic again. VA is likely going to be more blue in the future because the more liberal leaning areas (NoVA) are gaining tremendous amounts of people, while the more red areas are losing people.

WVA tends to be heavily Democratic at the state level. However, the Democrats in this area are pretty centrist, and they would be quite conservative in MN. I'm very conservative myself, but you've given the impression that you're wanting to move partly for political reasons, which is a stupid motive. I miss the low taxes and natural beauty of TN, but I can ultimately get a higher quality of life for my dollar here in IA, even if it is omre blue.

Right north of Tazewell County (where Bluefield VA is at) is McDowell County WVA, one of the poorest counties in the country and one that underwent nearly complete economic collapse. McDowell's schools were taken over by the state government due to poor performance and 34% of the population of county is below the federal poverty line. Tazewell is only slightly higher than the national average for poverty, but you will be surrounded by some of the poorest and most isolated areas of the country. The economy is this part of Appalachia is in shambles and there's nothing on the horizon that would improve it. Most of the southwest VA counties have been hemorrhaging people for years. This is an area that people move away from - they don't typically go there unless they have family ties.

Your cost of living is going to be lower in VA, no doubt, but I doubt you've factored in the extremely high food prices and distance to get to anything. If you need a certain kind of doctor, want more shopping/dining, etc, you will be driving back to Abingdon at a minimum, and likely the Tri-Cities.

If you are looking for an isolated plot of land with a town to serve the bare minimums, the Bluefield area may be okay, but it's certainly not a place most people would want to live.
