Hello guys,
First of all let me explain a bit about my situation. I live in the UK and a very good friend of mine just married a beautiful American girl in Virginia. They had their official wedding in the US about one month ago and were planning to have another ceremony for all of the grooms British friends and family in the UK last Saturday. BUT he couldn't gethis visa application sorted. Itwasvery sad for us all and due to all the lawyers fees and time spent trying to sort it out they were never able to make it on honeymoon. SO.... Me and a few friends want to chip together and get them a weekend away in a beautiful part of Virginia. I don't want the trip to be very commercial. Just a beautiful spot somewhere that they can relax and enjoy nature with not too many other people about. I was thinking shenandoah national park - what do you think? Anyone have any recommendations on precise location or accommodation? and when would be the best time for fall foliage? Ijust really want to give them something really lovely after all the disappointment they have had. IT'S not too easy finding out this type of stuff from over here so i really appreciate any help and advice. Many thanks, Rob. Last edited by Rob Kinghan; 08-29-2007 at 04:36 PM. The western part of Va is the most scenic. Along the Blue Ridge Parkway scenic drive in the north there is a lodge called Big Meadows, in the south a lodge called Peaks of Otter(my favorite). Beautiful walking trails, not many people, no tvs in room, etc, quiet and peaceful. Peaks of Otter is in Bedford, Va. Lovely lodge and restaurant also. If you fly into Washington Dulles airport it is about a 3-4 hour scenic drive down the parkway. The best time to come here to see the foilage is Sept/Oct usually. Not too far away is a town called Hot Springs VA which has a beautiful resort called The Homestead. Nearby Hot Springs there are public sulphur springs baths. Over in West Virginia, another international resort is called The Greenbrier(The President comes here). The town is called White Sulphur Springs. If you need anymore info please let me know as I live in the region. I hope your holiday goes well!!

Another vote for the Homestead. Mrs Electron and I will be there in about a month for our 16th anniversary.
