Blacksburg / Christiansburg living
Hey everyone.
So I recently got a job working at the Corporate Research Center at VT and I'm having a little bit of trouble finding a place to live. I am single and trying to avoid paying over $1000 a month for rent and all utilities/expenses (excluding food).
I've called around and found only a very few places to look at. Most places seem to be rented out, or don't accept pets. And some look very worn down and have no AC/heat. Some places I see that are available are in B'burg, but I want to stay away from the college housing places.
While I'm very familiar with the area, the housing is something I'm not familiar at all with. And there isn't much online for anything out there.
Does anyone have any suggestions as far as some other Realtors to call that may have places to rent, but not listed online?

I have found a few places so far and will be looking this week, it's just surprisingly difficult to find non college town rentals out there.

I think you may run into limitations because rentals are not really where the money is in the real estate development market in the NRV area right now. Right now the money is in the $250K and up entry level to mid-level home. You'll have trouble finding anything in the $1,000/mo and lower range that's newly updated, unless you're willing to room with some young professionals and share a larger house. Which is something you might think about; in other words, find a home to rent with 3 bedrooms and use the online community available in the research park to put the word out and get two guys to sublet from you. You get the MBR, it all works out nicely
Cameron Johnson still lives in Blacksburg ( Welcome to The Official Website of Cameron Johnson!). He knows everyone, you might consider emailing him to see if he knows of any properties for a young professional to rent alone or with some other young professionals.
