New Town is located at the intersection of Monticello and Ironbound. From I 64 take 199 to Monticello north. It's about a mile up on the left. Across from the New Courthouse. There are Midrise Condos for sale, Attached Townhomes & Luxury Apartments. Prices range from the low 200's to $500's.
There are plans for detached homes as well in the future. It is becoming the retail and resturant destination. There are 13 resturants open including Panera Bread, Opus 9, California Tortilla, The Corner Pocket,Buon Amici, Greenleafe Cafe, Quiznos, Coco Chocolatier, Ben & Jerry's ,Art Cafe 26, Center Street Grill, Cheeburger Cheeburger,MAggie Moo's and more planned. Bonefish Grill is about to open. Trader Joes is supposed to open late next year. Retail stores include Old Navy, Barnes & Noble, Victorias Secret, Chicos, are just a few of the stores open. There is a 12 screen movie theater as well. We just moved into our new office building. It's great being in the middle of everything. Doctors, Dentists, exercise facilities, parks and most everything you need or want. Come and take a look.

THE GENESIS OF NEW TOWN: IT WAS WELL WORTH THE WAIT Williamsburg Va

This was from an article in the Daily Press.By Natalie Miller- Moore, There is no link to the article.

New Town is right around the corner from my house. I didn't know much about it when i moved in, and what i know now is mostly experiential.

I DROVE THROUGH NEW TOWN LAST NIGHT ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH IT. i didn't have time to really take a good look at it ,i will save that for a trip with the Mrs..
I'm not sure if i could adjust to city life again after being out in the country with the nearest store 20 miles away for the last 25 years, but it did take me back to the nicer times when people would get out and walk to the store movie etc. without worry of getting mugged!
oh for the good Ole days....................

i stopped and walked around new town last night and i ate at cheeseburger cheeseburger.
the restaurant and the atmosphere of new town took me back to my childhood where i could walk to every store i would need from banks to clothing, to a movie theater. The cheeseburger had a 50s theme.
i highly recommend everyone to take time to visit this new type of shopping mall!!!! it was enjoyable and i don't like to shop!

It follows a planning concept called new urbanism.

i think this new urbanism is what the rocketts landing project is going to become...
my question is first everyone moves to the west side ,second they tire of the commute, third how many will move back to rocketts with a 24/365 railroad yard and a poop processing plant that really smells ripe in mid summer right across the river??

Actually, Rockett's Landing appears to be doing very well. It will define new urbanism... at buildout Rockett's will extend over a mile along the James River, consisting over 25 city blocks of somewhere near 2000 residential units, over 1 million sf of commercial space, hotel space, a marina, riverfront public space, etc representing a $1 billion investment. Parking, in addition to on-street, will be concealed in decks wrapped with buildings or in alleys behind rowhomes. Add in the new city marina, Echo Harbour, built out Tobacco row and other development to the west, and Tree Hill Farm and Wilton to the east and the East End will be unrecognizable. There shouldn't be vast parking lots behind buildings like at New Town, which makes it feel disneyfied.

some people have already moved into rocketts landing, but i still have to wonder about having trains rumbling by at 3 am ,and sitting out on my balcony smelling the sewage plant across the river on a hot august day......i don't think one can get used to heavy coal trains shaking the building all night....but heck I'm usually wrong...or so my wife tells me!
