My husband and me both got a scholarship to Southern Virginia University. We currently live in California Im excited to go but I don't know anything about Virginia. We know that it is located in Buena Vista VA but would like to live in Lynchburg VA. Can anyone give me information about these two cities? Is it a good idea to move? Is rent expensive or cheap? We could afford something around 800. What is the minimum wage? Is stuff cheap out there? I also heard there were many racist there because it use to be a confederate state. I dont mind because we dont mess with anyone but I still would like to know. I would like to know about this these cities as much as possible. Thanks.

I believe that to go from Buena Vista to/from Lynchburg requires travel over some twisty mountain roads. If I am wrong, I am sure another poster will correct me.

If you do not want to live in Buena Vista I would think it would be easier to live somewhere west of that city.

Racism is everywhere, it just varies in degree and obviousness. Most of the citizens here are tolerant. I do not believe you will find racism a dominating issue in most parts of Virginia.

Have you been on Buena Vista's website?

Traveling from Buena Vista to Lynchburg will take quite some time as the roads are small and twists and turns over the mountains. In the winter it will be quite tricky with snow, ice and wet roads. I would not recomend that commute. Look into Lexington, Va - it is not a big city, but it is the home to two universities and will probably offer a better selection of everything compared to Buena Vista.

Second Mr Jonas. Drive is fun in summer if you have a sports car on a weekend but terrible as an every day thing as many trucks use that road and are very slow. Lexington is very nice.

Have you had any luck finding a place in the area? I agree with other post, the drive to Buena Vista is around a twisty mountain. You could always pick to live somewhere like Boonsboro part of Lynchburg and go 501 direction. This would cut off some of the time and is not that bad of a drive.

Huntingwood Apartments is a very nice place.

If you are moving from California to VA, I don't think I would pick a small town like Buena Vista to live in. I would either pick Lynchburg or Roanoke, VA.

Let me know if you need any help!

Wendy
