Possibly moving from Harrisonburg to Lynchburg in the coming months. From what I can tell, both are very similar. Can anyone tell me what the best elementary/middle/high school system is? It looks like Lynchburg is also an independent city - I know in Harrisonburg, many would agree that the Rockingham county school system is much better - so is it better to be in the county vs the city? I'm looking mostly for nice neighborhoods with good schools in the 300-500k range. What are the "Jones's" neighborhoods so to speak slightly further out?

24503-esp the more westerly sections. I don't believe the city schools are thought of as worse than those in the surrounding area. Paul Munro grade school is considered very good.

Knowing Harrisonburg, you'd also want to take a look in the Ivy Hill-Lake Vista area, as well as the western parts of Boonsboro. School options aren't bad either way, but the city schools often advertise their superior numbers of AP programs.

Any luck finding a place? I agree Boonsboro and Ivy Lake/Forest are 2 great choices. Forest area/Bedford County have some of the best schools. I would look in 24503 zip code also. The middle school is either Boonsboro Elementary or Bedford Hills. My son goes to Bedford hills and I have been very pleased.

You can also chose Private Schools. LCA- Lynchburg Christian Academy is wonderful!!
