I was coming home traveling west bound on route 58, when a policeman pulled me over. He told me I was going 78 mph with a limit of 60, until I showed him my GPS, which showed my top speed of entire trip was only 67 MPH. He then joked and then wrote me a ticket for improper equipment instead of a speeding ticket. I told him that the car I was driving was a brand new rental car and he said "let them pay it". He told me no to go to court because it won't help.

Has anyone had problems with the police on 58/13 from VA to NC?
If they need money that bad they should put up a toll booth.

Default bad cop

My husband says this sounds like a bad cop and report him. Even call the local State's Attorney Office and log an official complaint after filing a complaint with the local police. Who knows if the local police will cover for him or not. What is he bored out of his mind? Good luck!

Unhappy Ticket

Was this by any chance in Emporia, ticket capital of Virginia? Everyone I know - including me - has gotten some sort of ticket in Emporia.

No, I was just passing through. He said " this must be your first time on this road, lets make a deal". I can't believe that they can get away with this. I wasn't in emporia but very close.

Anytime you near Emporia, you just might as well go the speed limit. It is a well known speed trap area.

I used to drive from Newport News to GA at least 3 times a year and our route would take us through Emporia. We would throttle down to EXACTLY the speed limit for at least 30 miles before and 30 miles after Emporia as it really is the biggest speed trap in VA. Not once in the roughly 54 times I drove through there did I see any fewer than 3 people pulled over. And if the ticket was issued in Emporia then the cop is right about the futility of fighting the ticket.

I also got a ticket driving through Emporia. I pulled over to wait for relatives that had gotten pulled over by a cop ahead of me. The cops walks back to me and asks if I was following them. I said yes so then he writes me a ticket. In court, I tell the judge that there were vehicles passing me on my right as well as vehicles in front and behind me. I also tell them the radar beam width is 250 feet width from 1000 feet away so the reading is inaccurate with all of the vehicles surrounding us. The cop agrees that there were cars all around but claims he used his "lane selector" on his radar to restrict the radar beam to only our two vehicles. I can't imagine that being possible, but if there is a "lane selector" the reading was still inaccurate with both vehicles in the beam. If there is no "lane selector" on a radar, that's perjury.

its just how the state and local govt collect money without raising there tax base...this keeps the money flowing and them re elected, ie: Tim Kaine's latest answer to the tax increase he was denied triple penalties for DUI or reckless op,...who can argue this fine..... its for safety....when it comes to getting money they play either the safety card or my favorite...BUT ITS FOR THE CHILLLLLDREEEEEN!!!!
