Hi, I grew up in Detroit and them we moved to Tennessee when I was a teenager. After 15 years of living here I am ready to move. I want to move somewhere safe, clean, that has good schools, and not too expensive to live. I do not want to live in a rural area again, but I don't have to be in the middle of a big city either. I want to be able to shop and to go places without an hour drive. I need more than just a Wal-Mart! I am planning a trip in June to come look at some areas. If anyone had any idea of a good places to look please let me know.

Your post is way to vague. You haven't given any clue as to what kind of employment you would be seeking (thus your income), what your definition of "inexpensive" is, or what kind of housing (house? townhouse? apartment? buying? renting?). Everyone has a different definition of "inexpensive" -- to me that might mean a $500k house in Northern Virginia, to someone else an apartment for $400 a month.

First, I'd say -- look at a map of Virginia. Are you interested in mountain areas of the Shenandoah Valley (look at Harrisonburg, Blacksburg, Roanoke, Lynchburg) or do you want to be closer to the water (Norfolk, Va Beach, Williamsburg) or more urban areas (Northern Virginia)

Read through the various threads and then you'll be able to ask more specific questions about each area.

Best of luck.
