I may have a job offer in Springfield, and am wondering what the area is like. I noticed on the map that it is rather close in proximity to D.C. Is it more suburbs, smaller town, or city-like? Would be looking to rent an apartment or small house with a dog.
Thanks!

I lived there for almost 4 years...quite pricey these days... Lots of townhouses and condos to rent, and lots of folks have dogs. Nice shopping centers close to the homes... a Fresh Fields over in West Springfield, near Burke. You might consider looking at Burke too. I think some of the homes are a bit newer in Burke.

That area is kinda burbs... right at the edge of the beltway.

Where are you coming from?

Currently near Asheville, NC, up in the mountains. You pretty much confirmed what I already suspected, unfortunately. A little too close to the city, a little too far from the country for me. I've tried living in places like that before, and I was very unhappy. Just a country kid at heart I guess.
Thanks for replying though, I appreciate it!

Springfield is no where near the country. Maybe 40 years ago, but not today. Traffic in that area would be God Aweful and you would be shocked by the real estate prices. That being said I grew up in Fairfax and miss it anyway...
