okay so here are the "basics"
-Where you are working- my husband will be working at Cheatham Annex in williamsburg
-How much you are willing to spend on housing- we have a BAH of $1200 a month and would like to stay under that including utilities
-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate- no longer than 30 mins
-If you have kids: Private school or public school? we have a 2 year old so school isn't a big deal now, but we will be living here for at least 4 years so a good elementary school is key. public
-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: small town feeling? small city excitement? suburbia delight?- we are looking for a family friendly area of course SAFE because there are times that i will be home by myself if my husband ever has to go on deployment
-Community amenities important to you- a nearby park would be nice and swimming pool of course would be awesome but not a deal breaker

we are moving the middle of July and will not be able to go and actually see the properties personally before we move. i have a family friend who lives in va that will be going on my behalf but i need some advice on maybe some good apartment complexes, good areas, areas to avoid, etc. thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

There are quite a few neighborhoods that are close to Cheatham and within 30 minutes commute (James City County, Williamsburg, York County/Yorktown, Newport News) that have pools or you can join a pool in another neighborhood. You can access the local mls at is hrmls.com. There are nice apartment complexes here, too.
