The city has an art museum with a very modern and interesting architecture. It sits on a road on which it can be walked past easily, not only driven to. Also, on a main road within the city, not far from the museum, are at least two large log cabins.

The city also has a multi-story store in which you shop for home/interior design products. All of this is sort of in the same section, however the city has another section that feels more urban. In this section, you walk the sidewalks and there is virtually no spaces between the buildings. Each is a store, theater, etc.

The entire city is surrounded by wooded mountains that you can see as it is not very large. It is either located in West Virginia or Virginia.

Any guesses or input is appreciated as I do not have any more details but really need to find it. Thank you.

That's Roanoke. The middle section is somewhere else!

There used to be a Mostly Sofas building downtown that was at least three stories tall and had more than just sofas that the poster could be referring to, but its gone now. The building was on the outer edge of downtown, where there was still space between buildings. Not sure about the log cabins, but it definitely sounds like Roanoke.
