Hi, We are planning on moving back to Virginia next year. I am seeing some nice houses in Hopeville. Please let me know what you know about the area: community, crime, attitudes towards new-comers, medical care availability, etc.

Thanks, C

I am sorry. I misspelled the name of the community. I was looking at Homewell and I see there is quite a bit out there. The other like name is Homeville.

I request the moderator to please delete this thread.

Sincerely, C

Do you mean Hopewell? Hopewell is an older industrial town, 20 miles south of Richmond at the junction of the James and Appomattox Rivers. Unfortunately it was the site of the "Kepone" chemical contamination, about 40 years ago. I've never personally known anyone who lived there. I think the gentleman who founded and runs the Virginia Holocaust Museum originally grew up there.

If you meant Hopewell, I will second the negative recommendation. The chemical plants along the river still get fined for emitting pollutants. The downtown is old and tired, and people seemed unfriendly.

There is some newer housing outside of town, but I would check the property tax rates there first.

Thanks for the reply. I am keeping copies of all the replies so I can summarize what everyone says. Since we haven't even put our place on the market yet, there is no great rush. While I would love to move next spring, it is highly doubtful that will happen. That gives me a lot of time to research.
