Hi, I was wondering if somebody could help.

I have been unemployed for a long time; my last paying job was in 2010 when I worked out of state at a University. Since then I relocated to VA and when trying to apply for unemployment in 2010 I was ruled ineligible because the job I held was an assistantship.

I tried again to apply for unemployment but since I have not had a job with wages since I was ruled ineligible again.

I wanted to know what other options I might have to receive aid. I currently am working but it is an unpaid internship in my field of study. I can only think of welfare; can you think of anything? I do have an intellectual disability; but it does not prevent me from work and am not on disability. Thanks.

What are you job strengths? That's you best hope...get a job in some field! Welfare is an option, but not a good one.

Wouldn't you apply for unemployment in the state where you last held a job? I'm not sure why VA would provide you with unemployment when you didn't work within the state to start with? Even though you have moved into VA, maybe the answer is to apply in the previous state?

Unemployment is paid from the state which you last worked in. If you file w/Virginia they should go back to the state your employment was in and see if you have are eligable for benifits. If your not on disability/SSI any "intellectual disability" as you put it is a mute point. You sound like college student who can't get a paying internship. am I right??

Maybe you need to expand your search for work, and consider moving where you would have better luck finding a job in your field.
