"those "evil" people aren't vampires, they come out in the daytime, too. Why do you think it's safer in the day?"

Statistics show that most crime does occur at night.

Exclamation "Safety" is a relative concept ...

I also think we're doing a pregnant, young woman (OP) a disservice to pretend if's a good idea to go walking around at night, especially in lower income areas (she mentioned $300k as a maximum) and we all know that {living in a "lower income area"} limits her options and raises the crime rates.
Yes it does! And there are NO "small towns" near where the OP and her husband want to relocate.

And while most parts of Northern VA do generally tend to be safer than most other parts of the DC area, when I go out at night in Northern VA, chances are good that I will be carrying a large-caliber revolver loaded with hollowpoints.

Because I already know how dangerous a "safe" place can become in an instant, if the "wrong person" should happen to be out there randomly looking for a few bucks to buy drugs (or whatever).

And many of those "wrong people" out on the street will kill you if they think you have $5.

Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition ...
Dan
