We are currently living in Loudoun County and love it except we want to move "further out" because it is expensive to live here and we would like more property (not less than about 10 acres) for our money. Also, we are conservative libertarian and schools are not an issue as we are home schooling. We do not want to be completely isolated but we would like to pursue an interest in developing our property to being off the grid if need be. We need to live in an area that has high speed internet for our jobs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

PS - We just thought Lexington seemed nice, we really know very little about it - so if you have other suggestions as far as areas of VA for us to consider, please do so.

Do you have a preference for topography? Mountains? Flat-lands? Beach? Water?

Are you looking to be close to shopping? Museums? Parks? Do you want to be near a college/university?

What about weather? The weather in Newport News is a lot different from the weather in Monterey.

I suspect that all Virginia incorporated towns have high speed internet available. Stray outside of those areas in many counties and there is no high-speed internet.

Here's a list of incorporated towns:

Lexington is a very liberal town, W&L has a lot to do with that. The environs are Old Virginny, conservative, quiet, it's an easy place to live. Taxes in the country on larger pieces of land, are nominal. Rockbridge county will leave you alone.
