Default Abingdon/Bristol/'Roanoke

Hi, I'm new here. My family is possibly relocating to Virginia in a few months. We went to Abigdon/Bristol and liked it, and we are going soon to see Roanoke.

OUr question is we are hearing that Abingdon/Brisol area has a declining economic market, high utilities and lots of poverty, of course our realtor there says she hasn't heard of it? Anyone know anything more about this area.

I tried to go to the Roanoke thread mentioned . . . .we can't afford to live in Roanoake and can only spend about $175 ona a home . . . we can find many homes in Washington County (Bristol-Abingdon) for that price, but can't seem to find many in Roanoke . . . is there a good county within a 40 minute drive, not to rurual in that area? Any info on these areas will be helpful, thanks.

Will you be working? Because finding a job in Southwest VA can be difficult. Remember to look for job prospects before making a move. $175k may seem cheap on paper but without a good paying job, it will be difficult.

Hello,I'm actually from that area. And, I just wanted to tell you that it is a very pretty place, with lots of activities that are based on tourism. However, depending upon your tastes, it can be a wonderful place to live. There are many places to go and things to do in the surrounding towns/cities/states as well. It's very cultural, and a very old town, very charming. If you do find a home in Abingdon, I am sure that you will find it very welcoming!
